re: #73 SixDegrees

Someone on an earlier thread pointed out that this isn’t a “gay bar.” Gays go there; apparently, so do lots of other people.

So what we know is that this guy left the bar with another guy. There’s nothing in the article that leads to a conclusion that either or both of them are gay.

Back when I was single, I used to go to bars with other men all the time. And, unfortunately, we often left together, as well, even though the whole point was to score. With women.

The DUI is certainly inexcusable, if it stands. But I think, once again, we’re seeing a rush to judgment on other issues, and a willingness to convict without benefit of actual evidence, that is disturbingly common and frequent. Even the DUI, at this point, is a charge - he hasn’t been convicted, he’s presumed innocent, and like everyone else he’s allowed his day in court.

There’ll be plenty of time to demonize and villify once actual facts are known and allegations proven. The lynch mob mentality on display here by some is extremely offputting.

Good points. I’m guilty of “lynch mob” with my hypocrisy comments. The guy deserves a fair shake to explain himself for being at a gay-friendly bar and a court date for the DUI. For the record, I couldn’t care less that he was at a gay bar.

HOWEVER

I don’t like leaders who favor laws that restrict rights to a large group of people. His record is not in contention at all on that front, and so for that I say to him “you’re an insensitive bigot in the way of social equality.”
