re: #678 I Need A Bigger Gun

Actually, she might be a racist (versus a bigot) in this instance. The definition of racist is the belief in the superiority of one race over another. She thinks she can come to a better conclusion on things because she is Hispanic and not white. That would seem to be a feeling of superiority in her race versus the white race. Hence, she is, in this instance, a racist. The term “racist” is bandied about when it shouldn’t be; most of the time the word should be “bigot”. She isn’t a bigot. She is a racist.

Hmmm… last time I checked, Hispanics/Latinos were not a race. The official definition is “a person of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race”. whitehouse.gov

[Hmm, does that make Sephardic Jews “Hispanic”? ;-)]

If we extend the definition to not asserting the superiority of one race, but asserting the particular inferiority/nefarious character of a given race, then there is such a thing as anti-white Racism. (Like not all antisemites believe their own group to be a Master Race, but all do believe we Jews are inferior or evil.)

Otherwise I’d call it bigotry. All racism is bigotry, but not all bigotry is racism.
