This part really stuck out for me:

That’s the whine you’ll hear repeatedly, whether it’s young people or people who “like their healthcare plan”, because they’ve never had to use it.

We have always had good health insurance, because it’s pretty much de rigeur in the Biotech biz. Still, 8 years ago when Mrs. Jockey was diagnosed with Stage I Breast Cancer, we ended up with over $6000 out of pocket expenses. I can only imagine what the full cost would have been.

Mid 40s, no cancer in her family. Healthy as a horse. You need health insurance for the things that you don’t expect to happen, same as any other kind of insurance.
