Me: “Oh, Sakamoto Ryuichi? I have to admit that I know him better from Last Emperor.”

Son: “I didn’t know about that he acted, but I’ve been listening to his soundtrack and his piano pieces and he’s amazing.”

Then, after I gave him the sad news that Sakamoto Ryuichi has cancer, I turned him on to his relationship with the comedy duo DownTown. Some really funny stuff.

Of course, my son reminded me that YMO wasn’t just SR.

Is that the first name/last name way of Japanese names? I have one of his albums filed under S in my collection, thinking Ryuichi is a first name and Sakamoto a last name.
