In any case, there’s a racist strain the Republican Party today that has become out of control. The West Virginia legislator is an example.

Still, if John Boener is really clever he can turn this pandering to the GOP’s advantage. I’d suggest a counteroffer, one that Obama won’t like very much but is designed to be humane. Stake out a good position and then force Obama to negotiate. If he insists on further pandering, he’ll look like a posturing asshole.
