I used to hold that opinion too. But even with all the other wars on other fronts, the Soviets nearly used up a generation as soldiers (e.g. 97% of men born 1918-20). I have wondered whether they had the manpower to keep fighting for a lot longer.

I recall reading somewhere that the Russians were starting to have manpower shortages. Not on the scale of the UK ones, but it does indicate that if it had only been Germany vs USSR it would have eventually been a larger issue given the expectation that the defeat of Germany would have taken longer.

I general take on it is the “USA beat the Nazis” or “Russia beat the Nazis” is pretty much crap since the real answer is “The Allies beat the Nazis”.
