The intent of the argument is, “If you want this so much, if it’s so popular, why don’t you get a Constitutional amendment passed to make it happen?” Because they are very well aware that, thanks to their control over the majority of state legislatures, passing any kind of modern progressive Constitutional amendment is just as impossible as getting a modern progressive ruling from the Supreme Court. It’s just another way they’re telling us to go pound sand, because they’re in charge, despite being the minority. Cloaking all of this in self-righteous terms so that they can believe they’re right, dammit.
