Pretty close. When you regard your political/economic ideology as the “only way” and the solution to all problems, practically deify and worship the party leaders, and elevate certain literature to the status of infallible scripture (Communist Manifesto, Mein Kampf, Mao’s Little Red Book), that sounds a lot like religion to me.

But if you prefer, we can point to the Taliban and the Iranian mullahs instead.
