Well, let’s see what happens next. Constitutional amendment, maybe?

A “marriage” amendment to Iowa’s constitution was attempted in 2008, but failed — not exactly sure why, though, and haven’t had time to Google for details yet. (I.e., did it fail because of political opposition, or simply because Iowa has a more difficult process for amending the constitution?)
