Newspapers are going out of business because they suck. After that, pressure from the internet and economy. But the sucking has been there a while, making them weak enough that the other dynamics are hurting even more.
Interesting irony:
Watching local weak news about Seattle paper that just closed up. They reported the ‘tough economy and recession’ as the reason the paper closed. I had to explain the guffaw to the missus.
Anyhoo, I think Charles is right. Being printed on paper or on the internet is after the fact: the quality and fundamental shift in the product has not made the consumer want it anymore.
