Are you kidding me? The reason Kennedy felt compelled to say this was because the protestant religions, including the evangelicals were worried about a catholic trying to merge his religion with the state. So he made it clear to them he completely supported the concept of division between church and state. Now that the evangelicals want NO separation, they are criticizing Kennedy for saying this?
