“we decide what’s in the best interest of our national security”

Really?

We’ve decided that the nation has an all volunteer military, which means that those who join to serve in the US Armed Forces are interested in doing their part to protect and defend the nation. You’re purposefully looking to exclude a group of Americans who want to serve because of their sexual orientation, even as the military itself says that it will comply with the changed law/circumstances - the end of DADT.

Santorum would undermine the manpower availability of the military to make a point about gays serving in the military, even though there’s no evidence that gays serving in the military reduces unit cohesion, causes problems, or other issues with carrying out the mission.

But this isn’t about gays serving in the military. It’s about his belief about gays being an abomination before the eyes of Santorum.

And Santorum can’t quite get that keeping gays out of the military is discrimination. Being a soldier, sailor, or Marine is a job - and it is discrimination to keep someone out of those positions on the basis of their sexual orientation.
