The 23rd is a Republican or conservative district so if in the end Hoffman wins it would come as no surprise. It would be foolish for the Tea Party to come to any conclusion because of that since it is not a very competitive district due to its inherent nature as Republican/conservative district and given Scozzafava’s political history.

Also, as you mention the sample of 300 voters is rather low along with a rather high margin of error of plus or minus 5.66%.

The outcome doesn’t matter. A win for Hoffman will lead to shrieks of victory and a call to redouble efforts the next time around. A loss will lead to shrieks of defeat and betrayal - and a call to redouble efforts the next time around.
