As an American, why would I consider the Pope to be relevant as compared to the Office of the President? The President is our leader. The Pope isn’t. If I wanted spiritual enlightenment as a Roman Catholic, then the Pope’s positions would carry weight.

Yet, I’m Jewish, so I have no such inclination. He’s just the leader of a religious group. Some things he says and does may jibe with my own moral and ethical leanings, but plenty other things do not.

One has to wonder whether, if Newt came to the opposite conclusion, he’d be busy claiming that the President had split/dual loyalties - to the Church and the US.

Newt’s whole line of reasoning here is troubling.

The 3 branches of the Conservative Government are the Executive, the Legislative and the Church.

Screw the Judiciary.
