re: #901 Joel

I became a republican because of fiscal issues, and Newt Gingrich. I’ve always been more liberal on social issues, such as decriminalizing marijuana and gay issues. In the last year, I’ve come to realize the party isn’t very interested in individual liberty, or fiscal restraint for that matter.

I still have a great deal of respect for President Bush for his efforts in keeping this country safe, and I always will. But the spending from his time in Washington I now view in a different light.

I’m not ashamed of having learned more and my positions evolving because of that. I’m still the fiscal conservative-personal liberty republican I’ve always been. I’m just less naive about the party.
