re: #896 Fozzie Bear

It’s not exactly a conspiracy, in the sense that it’s actual secretive collusion. It’s just that big financial players buy the best facts they can, and broadcast them as loudly as they can afford. The result is a crapload of people who believe in magical economic theories relying more on faith than reason.

For example, the widely-held idea that lower taxes always leads to lower unemployment. It’s bullshit, but it doesn’t matter, because it’s truthy enough to fool a lot of voters into voting against their own interests.

A crapload of people will always believe in bullshit. That’s a fact of life. A crapload of people believe in homeopathy, ghosts, goblins, that vaccines cause autism, and so on. But they’re still not the majority. While a crapload of people will take some magic pill that been diluted in 40,000 gallons of water thinking it will cure cancer the majority of the people will seek the help of a real doctor. And if we’re going to say Fox News is doing this than you have to figure that only 2 million people tops watch Fox News. Which leaves a rather large majority that’s not even influenced by Fox News.

Yesterday I did a quick test. Regarding atheism. So, I asked my sister, “have you ever heard of Richard Dawkins or Christopher Hitchens?” Her answer was no. Most people never even heard of them. The overwhelming majority never heard of them. Most people never even heard of Michelle Bachmann. I guarantee you that if you go out tomorrow and ask “the man on the street” these question they’ll have no answer. My point? It’s a different world out there than one we perceive not only at LGF but in the world at large. Most people don’t listen to these financial experts.
