re: #78 Belafon

What, you mean all that stuff works? Allowing companies to lay off workers yet making sure there’s a safety net is good for everyone? If there was only a party in the US that was for a regulated form of capitalism, that thought a safety net was a good idea.

And yes, I’m talking about Democrats (just to make sure you understood). If we were against businesses, FDR would have shut them down during the Depression.

I also found this interesting…

Prime Minister Thorning-Schmidt said she’s committed to helping businesses stay competitive.

“We need to continue to take decisions to ensure that our model is sustainable and preserves prosperity,” she said in an email to The Associated Press.

In the end, there’s an economic trade-off, says Danske Bank’s chief economist, Steen Bocian.

“You could probably have higher growth in Denmark, allowing for more income inequality,” he said. “But it’s a political question whether you would pursue that.”

Is does remind me of the Canadian guy who started Occupy Wall Street. HE had an interesting idea about economic growth: the common wisdom is economic health is indicated by growth, his idea was low/no growth economic models would work better. Constant growth isn’t indefinitely sustainable. Interesting ideas but unfortunately we don’t have the culture here for them to take root.
