I think that many on the Leave side are probably most horrified at the prospect of having to admit they were wrong. I’ve seen language used to refer to the idea of an Article 50 revocation as a “national humiliation”. They’re more worried about being told they were wrong than anything else.

They still sell it as “it would make a mockery of the democratic process.”

Instead of “It would make a mockery of the Conservative party and its petty political brinksmanship-gone-awry.”
