I think, in order not to have total madmen running things, it’s useful to ensure that leaders’ families can follow them around to some extent, so you do need to have some staffing to support that.

But the idea that the spouse of the President is automatically someone who has pet causes and has their own little fiefdom (not to denigrate the positive and useful work that these women have done) is strange to me.
