I’m sorely tempted to register at RedState simply in order to opine that the “counting up” method of subtraction is well-explained by the example given, and should be graspable by a literate adult with a minimal amount of effort.

It’s actually rather troubling that people in positions of some responsibility wouldn’t be able to figure out a 3-step algorithm that involves writing numbers down and then adding them up.
