Can we assume that it was a deliberate act by Lubitz? I imagine the investigation into his medical records could reveal the reason(s) for his action.

After all, Lubitz appears to have acted after the experienced pilot, with over 6K hours of flying, was locked out of the cockpit. Hard to believe that this was a simple “accident”.

It was certainly deliberate. He refused to open the cockpit door for the pilot. The autopilot was reprogrammed to a standard descent from 38,000 ft to 100 ft, and the voice recorder captured the calm breathing of Lubitz as the plane headed for the mountains.

Maybe Lubitz could have passed out, or something, but he was still conscious enough to lock the door and reprogram the autopilot before that time.
