Like, I literally grew up with this exact behavior: You did A, therefore I can do B thru Z that are worse and you’re the hypocrite, so what I did cannot be discussed.

And the common variant: You attacked me with words/a look/your sad facial expression, so I defended with insults/threats/fists…therefore you are to blame.

…which the president and his fans also do.
