That brings up one of my favorite analyses of recent presidential elections, repeated by numerous pundits. In trying to maximize GOP victories (or minimize their losses), it’s often said that the Republicans won 80% of the territory of the US. Of course this means nothing since without people, it’s just space on a map. Much of the red territory is dominated by cows and dirt, neither of which have been granted the franchise.
