No one quite knows how much oil spilled or how much got degraded by exposure to the sun and/or microbes that feed off the oil. No one knows where all the oil went. That much oil spilling as fast and in such prodigious amounts will definitely change the ecology of the Gulf, but no one knows what that means going up the food chain.

Some folks will claim that this shows that nature can balance and self-correct. I think that’s overly optimistic.

I put up a page yesterday morning about this, the story was in the local paper.

Much of the oil evaporated - up to 75% of this type of oil can evaporate in the sort of hot conditions we have here.

What was left was the gooey sticky tarballs that really don’t sink into anything; although they are ugly and messy, it’s what you want to have as it can be cleaned up.

I have a bit more optimism than you.
