How do you think Abu Mazen has stayed in control of Fatah for so long? Just like Arafat, he speaks from both sides of his mouth. It’s politically untenable for him to acknowledge an Israeli state in some circles, so he’s got a spiel for everyone. It’ll take a new generation of leaders to create any kind of lasting peace between Palestinians and Israelis.

If only Netanyahu could get a more centrist coalition together and put some real pressure on the Palestinians, but then that means the Palestinians have to reciprocate, and I just don’t see that happening on account of domestic sentiment.
