Closer to home, the governor has dismissed the head of the Nebraska State Patrol, and turned over investigative information to the US Attorney’s Office and the FBI.

This comes after a couple high-speed chases (one recent and near my home) where the State Patrol allegedly lied and shifted stories when information or video came out, to cover themselves after those suspects were killed.

Several other officers have been placed on administrative leave pending the completion of the governor’s investigation commission into the incidents.

[Brad] Rice, appointed to lead the agency by [Gov. Pete] Ricketts [R] in 2015, will not receive a severance package, and his termination is effective immediately. The governor met with Rice in person Friday morning and he said the colonel reacted to the decision “professionally.”
