Aren’t the rare gem markets (or at least especially diamonds) highly manipulated by cartels that strictly control the supply side of the market to keep prices high? And also carry out a lot of marketing to stroke the demand side and make people at large think that their product is a cultural necessity. As such that strikes me as a poor analogy to use.

everything and everybody is manipulated….how did the 1% become so fabulously wealthy?…by dumb luck?….you can wonder for thousands of posts if you want…the major govts of the world literally control the markets….seems pretty obvious to me…look at DeBeers and their relationship with S African govts for example….diamonds are a joke
