Daisy makes a good point, but I am not sure if it is completely correct. The ordination was valid, but illicit. So he was ordained a bishop, but illegally if you will. In any case, I think she is right in that he and the others will not be functioning as bishops if and when SSPX is brought back into full communion. That has not happened. Benedict’s move was to start the process in good faith, but it certainly backfired.

My opinion: This is another sad episode that totally distracts one from the authentic and eternal message of Jesus Christ, which this man should be focused on totally as an ordained priest. It’s difficult to see a heart full of the love of God in such a situation, and that saddens me deeply.
