I live in an OLD southern community, out side of Birmingham, AL. I’d say a suburb but the houses here are all over a 100 years old, and gunfire I swear, is just a fact of life. New Years Eve, Fourth of July, Friday/Saturday night, Uncle Fred’s birthday, Aunt Jane’s Anniversary, as well as, all major and minor disputes. After last New year I had to replace 2 windows. The contractor repainting my roof found 2 bullets of different calibers that didn’t go through and one that did. I have a neighbor who hunts squirrel/cat/dog anytime of the year in our back alley. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad neighborhood, not a high crime area, no gang activity, just a lot of folks black and white with guns and no sense. I could see some one taking an offense to something and just letting off steam by firing a few off into the air.
Doesn’t make it right, but around here it’s not a matter that the police seem to take seriously, unless someone gets hurt, then it depends on who you are.
maybe they have the same ‘laissez faire’ attitude up there.
