Of course, reform would ordinarily come by inches in a large organization like that with entrenched views. Like the US itself. Some reforms long pre date the rest.

Change is also not uniform throughout such a large organization. Daughter Two was an ‘altar girl’ when we lived in Italy. When she came back to the ‘progressive’ US, she was not allowed.
