Any random GOP statement on science more richly deserves lie of the year, but Politico isn’t actually trying to evaluate what the real ‘lie of the year’ is.

I’m continually amazed by the simplicity of the ‘factchecking’ branding: just by calling themselves ‘factcheckers’, they crown themselves with objectivity despite having no real method, no actual standards, nothing but ad-hoc, contingent reasoning every time, both to how they judge things as false and true and how they evaluate the magnitude of something.

They also provide great ammunition for people who want to cite stuff on messageboards, which unfortunately is a pretty fantastic model.

It’s ironic that ‘factcheckers’ are leading the charge in further devaluing the already-almost-useless US media.
