For one thing, I’d lose the $2,000 tax refund I have yet to file for. I’d also come as close as legally possible to calling for the assassination of most members of the Legislature in the last 15 years. Actually, it’s not *completely* the Legislature’s fault. With ballot initiatives, we’re allowed to spend money w/o actually budgeting for it, so that we force the Legislature — since they have to spend money on other stuff — into spending more than 100% of revenue. Hence taxes, fees, borrowing goes up. Initiatives are fine for social issues but stooopid for economic ones.

We have had the initiative process since 1903. Things did not start to get bad in California until the 1990s. The biggest problem is not the initiatives (although they aren’t really helping any) it’s the totally gerrymandered districts, and the out of control public employee unions.
