Olmert is the PM by inertia, as he was kicked out as head of his party (Kadima) but his successor (Livni) couldn’t muster the votes to put a coalition together. He’s tremendously unpopular and grasping at straws. He’s about as lame a duck as you can get, although the February elections may end up being postponed.

There just aren’t apt comparisons to American politicians (that I can come up anyway). Both the political system and the political spectrum are too different.

I’ve always mentally equated Netanyahu (sp?) with Newt Gingrich. Yes? No?
