re: #952 iceweasel

I don’t downding at all, generally, unless it’s the sort of thing that is so extreme it gets people banned. Even if the person in question downdings me all the time.

I think downdinging often leads to resentments and arguments and some people use it as a weapon to punish people they don’t like, regardless of the content of what that person posted. I’d rather avoid all of that, personally.

I’ll upding people who say things I disagree with, if I think the point was particularly well-made or cogent. I’ll upding even for jokes made at my own expense, if they made me laugh.

But everyone has their own policy of how the ding system works for them, as it should be.

I’m inclined to be sympathetic to someone who has a minority viewpoint here who doesn’t feel up to taking the heat, because sometimes it can get a little rough, and not every lizard is always nice or fair. Fortunately those are in the minority— but I know it can be tough to deal with, sometimes.

I sort of have the same “ding” philosophy you do.

But iceweasel - as far as it being “rough” - the thing to do is persuade people, not, imo, start throwing out insults in what must have been that person’s first ever post.

You and I have disagreed, but I don’t think we’ve ever insulted each other.
It can be done.
