Hmm.

Once it completely loads, double click again and look to see if there’s another drive that shows up (either on the desktop or to the left when looking at the file structure window - can’t remember the name and not currently running any of my Macs).

At some point you have to pull the application out of the file that you download and you do that by mounting the .dmg (which will show up as another hard drive, essentially). Inside that will be the application and that’s what you drag to the desktop.
