I’m sure Springfield would probably be resistant to any attempt by Drumpf to exert influence to call out the Guard, but I thought they could be leveraged at a federal level, somehow.

I actually think you’re right about that. As I recall reading, Eisenhower had the Arkansas NG activated to help the Little Rock 9 integrate.
