Just this morning I was watching a recent review of the last season of Dr. Who. The reviewer is not one of those wanna-be-macho types and actually is supportive of casting a woman as lead, but who like you is critical of the story writing:

I didn’t make it past one and half episodes till I gave up on it. But to be fair, I also gave up on The Orville, and even the latest season of ST:D.
