re: #95 friarstale

I would rather have you stick to the science for a minute. Let’s review:

You were snarking about the lake effect. So lets get the science clear before you move on to other talking points.

As bodies of water get warmer and the atmosphere gets warmer, there is more vapor pressure and the atmosphere can retain more water vapor.

For the water vapor to form droplets, it has to cool to do so. The atmosphere is cooler the farther up it goes - but since the atmosphere is warmer, the water vapor has to go up higher to cool that way. When a cold front does come in, it will rapidly cool a great deal more water vapor in the atmosphere. This means more intense snow storms and rainstorms are possible.

We still do have winter, because of the way the earth orbits (and something to do with the angle of our spin axis being not exactly perpendicular to the plane of the orbit, but I won’t confuse you with a discussion of flux).

As to the links,

Those links that I tend to post are from scientific journals, peer reviewed research and the sites of scientific organizations like NASA, NOAA, Princeton University, MIT etc…

Those are for grown ups.

For you, it is more important that you learn something basic, like where rain comes from. You should have learned this in grade school. Since you didn’t, now is a perfect time.
