You all were talking about perspective given the passing of the world’s oldest woman. Couple quick thoughts. It hit me when I was taking to a younger coworker the other day whose from Ukraine that I was born into the world where there was still a USSR. I even remember the early atlases I had still having the USSR. But two other things since people like to tease me about being a kid. My Dad’s one grandfather was born before the telephone in 1874. His other was born in 1876 in Germany just five years after the formation of the modern German nation state. If you’re wondering why my great grandfather’s have such early birth years, consider my father is the youngest son of a youngest child and second youngest along with my dad being relatively old for a first time father. I’m descended from quite a few youngest children hence why my tree’s generations are a bit wacky.
