I cannot imagine what else would prompt him to praise Manafort as someone who lived a blameless life, instead of a model of corruption who until now escaped the prosecution he richly deserved.

Sounds like. The tantrum he threw after he forgot that he’d explicitly given permission for expert witnesses to remain in court while other witnesses testified was classic sundowning oldfucker. The fact that his immediate reaction when confronted by the prosecutors with the discrepancy between what he had previously instructed and his rage in the moment was to bark “I don’t care what the transcript says,” should have marked the end of his career on the bench.
