OK It’s not something I think about every day. The footnote to the consumption aspect would also have to correlate with the populations being sustained. Obviously. But if someone wants to go out and shoot a big beautiful grizzly bear even though it is their right within wildlife management parameters, I don’t want to see it.

The National Park Service, and pretty much every State wildlife management agency, routinely kills animals for a variety of reasons. In the NPS case, grizzlies that persist in encroaching on busy areas in Yellowstone are first discouraged, then relocated, and can be killed if they are deemed to pose too great a threat and don’t seem to be getting the message of earlier attempts. Although I do have to say that the Yellowstone bear management effort is stellar, and grim endings like this are extremely rare.
