In a very different genre, but no less impressive guitar work, Eddie Hazel and Michael Hampton performing Maggot Brain.

Friend of mine sent this email:

Here’s a solution to all the controversy over full-body scanners at the airports:

All we need to do is develop a booth that you can step into that will not X-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device you may have hidden on or in your body. The explosion will be contained within the sealed booth.

This would be a win-win for everyone. There would be none of this crap about racial profiling and the device would eliminate long and expensive trials.

This is so simple that it’s brilliant. I can see it now: You’re in the airport terminal and you hear a muffled explosion. Shortly thereafter, an announcement comes over the PA system, “Attention standby passengers, we now have a seat available on flight number ….”

So I hate to do a “drive by post” but I have to go out tonight. Before I do go though, I’ve been branching out a little into some psychology papers and a few sociology papers.

I’m forming an hypothesis about the structure of our current media, including the net and all of the propaganda to be found, is creating a nation of stalkers.

I mean that in a near clinical sense after reading these papers. I mean that in a clinical sense our media outlets are promoting the psychology of a stalker.

Consider this re: rejected stalkers.

Many of them are narcissists and, thus, lack empathy, feel omnipotent and immune to the consequences of their actions.

… Stalking – and the ability to “mete out justice” makes them feel powerful and vindicated. When arrested, they often act the victim and attribute their actions to self-defence and “righting wrongs”.

Stalkers are emotionally labile and present with rigid and infantile (primitive) defense mechanisms: splitting, projection, projective identification, denial, intellectualization, and narcissism. They devalue and dehumanize their victims and thus “justify” the harassment or diminish it. From here, it is only one step to violent conduct.

Or consider this from the wiki on cyberstalking:

CyberAngels has written about how to identify cyberstalking:
When identifying cyberstalking “in the field,” … the following features or combination of features can be considered to characterize a true stalking situation: malice, premeditation, repetition, distress, obsession, vendetta, no legitimate purpose, personally directed, disregarded warnings to stop, harassment, and threats.[3]

A number of key factors have been identified:

False accusations. Many cyberstalkers try to damage the reputation of their victim and turn other people against them. They post false information about them on websites. They may set up their own websites, blogs or user pages for this purpose. They post allegations about the victim to newsgroups, chat rooms or other sites that allow public contributions, such as Wikipedia or Amazon.com.[4]

Attempts to gather information about the victim. Cyberstalkers may approach their victim’s friends, family and work colleagues to obtain personal information. They may advertise for information on the Internet, or hire a private detective. They often will monitor the victim’s online activities and attempt to trace their IP address in an effort to gather more information about their victims. [5]

Encouraging others to harass the victim. Many cyberstalkers try to involve third parties in the harassment. They may claim the victim has harmed the stalker or his/her family in some way, or may post the victim’s name and telephone number in order to encourage others to join the pursuit.

False victimization. The cyberstalker will claim that the victim is harassing him/her. Bocij writes that this phenomenon has been noted in a number of well-known cases.

But look at those warning signs. Isn’t that exactly what the current atmosphere of propaganda is all about?

Anyway, I am thinking of doing a big page on this. I believe that I can back up my assertions with a lot of facts from journal papers and some common sense. Would folks be interested?

Thank you. As a physicist, I am not a clinical psychologist by any stretch of the imagination. I don’t claim any expertise in these matters. However, I have had a number of hunches forming for some time, and I have seen a lot of papers that agree with them rather well. I hope it starts an interesting discussion. I also know that here are lizards in this field, so I am hoping to draw out their commentary as well.

Well, as far as our stalkers are concerned, that one is easily verified. I am talking in a more general case though. I am going to argue that our nation is becoming conditioned to think like stalkers through a number of paths in th media.

As to our actual stalkers, a number of papers I have read described them with uncanny precision.

SKorea says sound of artillery heard on island

North Korean artillery was heard Sunday on the frontline South Korean island attacked last week, though no shells landed on the island, South Korea’s military said.

One artillery round was heard from a North Korean military base north of the sea border dividing the two Koreas, an official with South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said. He spoke on condition of anonymity, citing office rules.

That’s very concerning. Say a prayer for our brave troops in the area.

Report: U.S., South Korea launch war games

The United States and South Korea launched war games Sunday as South Koreans demanded vengeance over a deadly North Korean artillery bombardment that has raised fears of more clashes between the bitter rivals.

The drills began 6 a.m. local time (4 p.m. ET) in the Yellow Sea, west of the Korean peninsula town of Taean, south of the site of Tuesday’s attack, according to Korean military officials quoted by Yonhap, Reuters and other news agencies.

However, officials told NBC News that the maneuvers would not start until midafternoon as the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington had just arrived in the area to join the exercise. They added that no live-fire exercises are planned during the three-day war games.

The George Washington, which carries 75 warplanes and has a crew of more than 6,000, will be accompanied by at least four other warships.

NKorea deploys missiles

SEOUL - NORTH Korea has deployed SA-2 surface-to-air missiles near its disputed Yellow Sea border with South Korea, a report said on Sunday as a major US-led naval exercise began further to the south.

The missiles appear to be targeting the South’s jet fighters flying near the Northern Limit Line which marks the border, Yonhap news agency quoted a government source as saying.

45 Varek Raith  Sat, Nov 27, 2010 7:21:14pm

SA-2 Surface-to-Air Missile

Developed in the mid-1950s, the V-750 Dvina was the first effective Soviet surface-to-air missile. The Soviets used it to shoot down Gary Powers’ U-2 over the USSR in 1960 and Maj. Rudolph Anderson’s U-2 over Cuba in 1962. The missile was better known by the NATO designation SA-2 Guideline. The Soviets began exporting it to many countries worldwide in 1960, with many remaining in use into the 21st century.

North Vietnam began receiving SA-2s shortly after the start of Operation Rolling Thunder in the spring of 1965. With Soviet help, they built several well-camouflaged sites, regularly moving SA-2s and their equipment among them. The North Vietnamese also ringed SA-2 sites with anti-aircraft artillery (AAA), making them even more dangerous to attack.

SA-2 Site
The SA-2 did not operate alone, but as part of a complete system. A typical SA-2 site in North Vietnam had six missiles on launchers, control and support vans, a Spoon Rest acquisition radar, and a Fan Song guidance radar.

The Spoon Rest radar detected incoming aircraft at long range (as far as 70 miles), providing location data to the system computer.

The Fan Song guidance radar performed two functions: target acquisition and missile guidance. It acquired as many as four targets before firing. After launch, it guided up to three SA-2s against one target. (The North Vietnamese sometimes placed the radars away from the missiles to make the site harder to destroy.)

The SA-2 missile had a solid fuel booster rocket that launched and accelerated it, then dropped off after about six seconds. While in boost stage, the missile did not guide. During the second stage, the SA-2 guided, and a liquid-fuel rocket propelled it to the target.

Range: Minimum 5 miles; maximum effective range about 19 miles; maximum slant range 27 miles
Ceiling: Up to 60,000 ft.
Warhead: 288-lb. blast-fragmentation
Speed: Mach 3.5
Weight: 4,850 lbs.

Ahahaha….so much for the Texas socons and their attempt to get people into their marriage classes:

Few Texas couples taking advantage of fee-reducing premarital counseling course

A program that offers lower marriage license fees for couples who go through an eight-hour course on married life before exchanging vows has drawn little interest since its inception two years ago.

The Twogether in Texas program was hotly debated when it was put before the Legislature in 2007. But according to information provided to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram by state agencies, fewer than 15 percent of all marriage licenses over the past two years were related to the program.

That does not faze the program’s author, state Rep. Warren Chisum.

“The teaching of the course is working fine, and I have no intention of modifying that,” the Pampa Republican said this week. “We just have to figure out more ways to get more people to take the course (rather) than pay the double fee.”

The proposal drew considerable debate when Chisum made it to the 2007 Legislature. Chisum proposed raising the state marriage license fee from $30 to $100 and exempting program participants from paying the state fee. He said his aim was to strengthen marriages, but the proposal drew criticism that the increase would siphon revenue from local governments if too many participated.

Well, it’s not siphoning much revenue at all. It’s just another failure at conservative social engineering.

They would work, but the F-4 Phantom had effective counter measures against them by 1972. They would have a very hard time hitting an F/A-18E Super Hornet. And the George Washington carries Hornets fitted out for the ‘Wild Weasel’ mission of suppressing missile and search radars. If the Norks fire any SAMs, the radars used to guide them will be reduced to scrap metal.

The SA-2 was widely exported. The 1980’s vintage S-300 (AKA the SA-10) was not sold widely, as it was much more expensive. The Russians built a generation of ultra-cheap weapons, but their clients have in some cases been unable to upgrade due to the replacements much higher cost.

Found this online. It’s a good overview of North Korean SAM’s capabilities, and their deployment.

IMINT & Analysis

Open source military analysis, strategic thinking, and imagery interpretation.

The North Korean SAM Network

NTRODUCTION

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea fields one of the most capable third-world strategic SAM networks on paper. However, despite the high concentration of strategic SAM batteries and EW sites, there are significant issues in the network which need to be addressed in the near future. If these issues are ignored, the DPRK will be placing itself at risk.

THE STRATEGIC SAM FORCE

The DPRK’s strategic SAM assets are subordinate to the Air Force. The Air Force operates a variety of Soviet-era equipment. The following strategic SAM systems are currently in service: S-75 (SA-2 GUIDELINE), S-125 (SA-3 GOA), and S-200 (SA-5 GAMMON).

EW Coverage

Thirty three active and one inactive EW sites provide the DPRK with early warning radar coverage, used for SAM system target acquisition and track handoff, and GCI control of fighter units. These EW sites are primarily consolidated in the southern half of the nation, providing substantial coverage of the capital and the DMZ. Identified EW radars operating in the DPRK are predominately Soviet-era systems, although the presence of a JY-8 (WALL RUST) radar indicates that Chinese hardware is also in use. How well the Chinese system integrates with the rest of the FSU-era equipment is not known, but it is potentially not a problem given that China operates a number of Soviet and Russian systems. The following systems have been identified in available imagery:

P-12/18 (SPOON REST)
P-14 (TALL KING)
P-35/37 (BAR LOCK)
P-80 (BACK NET)
36D6 (TIN SHIELD)
JY-8 (WALL RUST)

The US DoD reports that the following radars are also in service, but they have not been identified in available imagery at this time:

5N69 (BIG BACK)
P-8/10 (KNIFE REST)
P-15 (FLAT FACE)
P-15M (SQUAT EYE)
PRV-11 (SIDE NET)
PRV-13 (ODD PAIR)

Hello!
Yup rain here too. No frost, but I might drive up the road tomorrow to the snow. Get chains in the morning and just head on up in the truck. I have a project that needs cloud footage. And a magazine ad that needs snow pictures to use. Heh. Fun “work”.

I owe you thanks & a beer or something. You had a good idea in DB² for our photography. Right this minute I’m uploading a Sanity Break to Youtube for embedding. You’ll see the use of it in the title. Big upload though…

Glad to help out :) Lengthening it to “DB2 Photography” (or something similar) might be worth considering as well to avoid confusion with any other entity using the name (I’m not sure how trademark laws work in this respect; I think it’s okay to have the same name as another company as long as you’re not selling the same product/service).

Jimmy Carter writes about North Korea in the Washington Post

No one can completely understand the motivations of the North Koreans, but it is entirely possible that their recent revelation of their uranium enrichment centrifuges and Pyongyang’s shelling of a South Korean island Tuesday are designed to remind the world that they deserve respect in negotiations that will shape their future.

Unbelievable. What a fucking jerk.

You said it. That asshole can’t even provide support to President Obama. Even with a liberal Democrat in the White House, he still toadies up to the totalitarian monster. Carter’s defeat in 1980 was an act of political hygiene.

N. Korea deploys SA-2 surface-to-air missiles near Yellow Sea border

SEOUL, Nov. 28 (Yonhap) — North Korea has deployed SA-2 surface-to-air missiles to its west coast near the Yellow Sea border with South Korea as U.S.-led naval drills got underway in a show of force against the North’s deadly artillery attack on a South Korean island earlier last week, government sources said Sunday.

CNN had that, too. Not too much of a concern, since the SA-2 was introduced back in the 1950’s. Its a very old system and the USN is well aware of how to defeat it.

DPRK accuses U.S. of orchestrating latest military skirmish

The recent severe military conflict between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and South Korea was plotted by the United States, DPRK media said Saturday.

The DPRK and South Korea exchanged artillery fire on Nov. 23 in the waters off the west coast of the Korean Peninsula, killing four South Koreans, including two civilians and injuring more than a dozen others.

The official KCNA news agency said the United States was “the arch criminal who deliberately planned the incident and wire-pulled it behind the scenes,” as it announced joint naval exercises with South Korea in the waters joined by the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington immediately after the incident.

“By orchestrating the case, the U.S. could bring the above-said nuclear carrier to the West Sea of Korea,” the KCNA said.

The KCNA also said the “civilian casualties” of South Korea were part of a propaganda campaign.

I don’t think the emphasis is on they type of military hardware they are using, I think the real point is… THEY ARE USING IT, while OUR military vessels are in the region leading a naval drill.

They have it deployed in the area. That’s still a good distance away from actually firing on of those missiles off. And if they do fire, they will be quite sorry.

N Korea to be ‘merciless’ if any provocation

North Korea on Sunday vowed a “merciless military counter-attack” against any intrusion into its territorial waters as a major US-South Korean naval exercise began well south of the border. The new threat, from the ruling communist party newspaper Rodong Sinmun, came five days after the North bombarded a South Korean border island, killing two civilians and two marines and setting homes ablaze.

The North said that it opened fire last week after South Korean shells landed in its waters around the tense and disputed Yellow Sea border.

The DPRK (North Korea) will deal a merciless military counter-attack at any provocative act of intruding into its territorial waters in the future, too,” said the paper’s commentary carried by the official news agency.

This is what happens to dictators who just get very ronery.

When the new schedule came out, Thanksgiving Day, they cut all the hours of 19 cashiers except the 3 full timers… we bust ass to enable them to sell all that food for Thanksgiving, and then they thank us by cutting our hours until about the week before Christmas.

I’ve never worked retail before (well, not since I was a teenager), and I am surprised that they still operated in the antiquated business models.

But, I guess it pays off for them in the long run. I’m not real jolly about the way it works.

But, the flip side, makes life interesting, I’ve managed to see multiple sides of the job market, from white collar work to blue collar to laborer… people are people, most people are good hard working people… in the long run, that’s good.
