Previously undisclosed emails provide an inside look at the increasingly desperate and often slapdash efforts by advisers to President Donald Trump to reverse his election defeat in the weeks before the Jan. 6 attack, including acknowledgments that a key element of their plan was of dubious legality and lived up to its billing as ‘fake.’” the New York Times reports.

“The dozens of emails among people connected to the Trump campaign, outside advisers and close associates of Mr. Trump show a particular focus on assembling lists of people who would claim — with no basis — to be Electoral College electors on his behalf in battleground states that he had lost

Story out of Cape May County here in NJ - the ob/gyn department is shutting down. The two ob/gyns on staff are leaving because they had better opportunities elsewhere. They were always on call and no slack. Low number of pregnancies and cases also contributed. But that means that anyone who gets pregnant or needs emergent care in Cape May County has to go 20+ miles to the nearest hospital with an ob/gyn on staff.

Nationwide there’s a shortage of 8,000+ ob/gyns, which means that women lack critical care that helps make sure that they can have a safe and successful pregnancy or survive crises that may arise.

Dobbs means that this will only get worse, and the states with the worst maternal death rates will see them get even worse - especially those that seek to deny women access to abortion, as Texas is doing.

The emails show that participants in the discussions reported details of their activities to Rudolph W. Giuliani, Mr. Trump’s personal lawyer, and in at least one case to Mark Meadows, the White House chief of staff. Around the same time, according to the House committee investigating Jan. 6, Mr. Meadows
emailed another campaign adviser saying, “We just need to have someone coordinating the electors for states.”

Many of the emails went to Mr. Epshteyn, who was acting as a coordinator for people inside and outside the Trump campaign and the White House and remains a close aide to Mr. Trump.
Mr. Epshteyn, the emails show, was a regular point of contact for John Eastman, the lawyer whose plan for derailing congressional certification of the Electoral College result on Jan. 6, 2021, was embraced by Mr. Trump.

Many people with disabilities say automated accessibility tools have made websites harder to navigate. In some cases, these tools have hidden widgets or incorrectly coded labels for images and buttons. Over 400 businesses using automated accessibility tools or overlays from companies like AudioEye, accessiBe, and UserWay were sued last year over accessibility issues. Further, an open letter from more than 700 accessibility advocates and Web developers has called on organizations to cease their use of accessibility tools given that the “overlays themselves may have accessibility problems” and that many who are blind or low vision already use screen readers or other software to navigate sites. Although the companies offering such tools say their products will improve over time, blind and low vision people argue that it is not fair for them to have to wait when everyday tasks increasingly require them to visit websites.

I exaggerated a little bit on the tail end; but as far as I’m aware, Dominionism holds that God withholds His favor and blessings from a country if they are not sufficiently zealous for His cause. What that means is left open to interpretation, so I substituted in what they’re apparently wanting to do, according to the trend of the legislation being passed or proposed.

I only get annoyed at the people who don’t have some kind of tag on their car.

The law only requires the disabled person carry the wallet card which comes with the placard. The law also requires you remove the placard when driving. If you simply forget to put the placard up when you park, there will be someone who thinks they need to stick their nose in your business.

People will even harass drivers with the permanent license plates.

As I noted, we’re sometimes harassed because we own a Smart even with the placard. Disabled people aren’t allowed to drive Smarts, apparently.

If the police are called for a car without the placard, the procedure is to try to find the car owner or passenger, and ask for the wallet card.

This criminal asshole, who is 56 years of age, threw is life away because he worshipped a “man” who literally has complete contempt for his kind. Good riddance.

Capitol rioter sentenced to 63 months in prison after taking an offer he previously refused

Mark Ponder, 56, received the longer-than-usual sentence among the rioters after pleading guilty April 22 to assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers using a dangerous weapon, the Department of Justice announced today. Following his prison term, he will be placed on three years of supervised release. He also must pay $2,000 in restitution.

The DOJ stated that “Ponder ran out from the crowd and swung a long, thin pole at a U.S. Capitol Police officer. The officer protected himself by raising his riot shield above his head. Ponder’s pole struck the riot shield and broke in two, with part of the pole flying off to the side.”

After retreating into the crowd, the report said, “Ponder re-armed himself with a new, thicker pole that was colored with red, white, and blue stripes. He swung (it) and banged it against the ground in a menacing manner. Then, as the police officers advanced to move the crowd, Ponder wildly swung the pole at the advancing police line, striking an officer in the left shoulder.”

What kills me about Roberts is that it’s not like he was trying salvage anything, other than maybe his rep for the Both Sides crowd. His whole shtick was “We won’t outright ban abortion, but let’s fuck over women as much as we can without ignoring precedent.”

Flying cars seem like a very dangerous and ill-advised concept IRL.

I am skeptical about the accuracy of COVID reporting in red states, but I decided to take a look at worldometer reporting of France and observed that deaths this summer were significantly higher than the comparable period in 2020 and 2021; same is true in Spain and Germany. Seems like a very worrying trend.

re: #104 Eclectic Cyborg

In the Star Trek timeline, this kind of stuff started happening around 2022, culminating in a riot by the homeless people in tents in 2024 (the wealthy began sending anyone they deemed “undesirable” to the tent camps) that precipitated a third world war that killed over 600 million people.

Initially, the homeless, poor, and jobless were housed in buildings located within the sanctuary districts … generally rundown inner city locations that were largely sealed off from the world of the upper and middle classes. But so many poor, jobless, and homeless people were relocated there that the districts became overcrowded with people living in shanty towns and tent cities in addition to the buildings.

I can imagine Lubbock drivers being able to fly. Pedestrians would have to have armored umbrellas to avoid being hit by randomly falling wreckage.
