It’s a modern til that also appears to be being used for petty cash (which doesn’t help). I couldn’t print the till roll, just balance the evings take over the float.

You can’t convince a dedicated Truther. All the photos of aircraft parts on the lawn of the Pentagon? Evidence planted. The the light pole that was clipped by the wing of the plane, smashing Lloyd England’s taxi cab? Planted. And on and on forever.
In many ways, arguing with a Truther is like trying to talk a schizophrenic out of their delusions. You can’t do it. You can show them evidence all day long, and all you’ll get for your trouble is a bunch of assertions that the evidence you’ve provided is fabricated in some way, and that you’re a bleating sheep, or actually part of the global disinformation apparatus.

Yeah. Reading that reminded me about that Dan Rather story that came up yesterday. Helps put things in perspective.

re: #69 wozzablog
I missed this back when it happened:
A congressional resolution introduced yesterday by Rep. Neil Abercrombie, D-Hawai’i, commemorating the 50th anniversary of Island statehood was temporarily postponed because birthers objected to a clause noting Obama was born in Hawai’i, said Dave Helfert, an Abercrombie spokesman. The line “Whereas the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, was born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961;” appeared to be construed by birthers as a thinly veiled attempt to get Congress to affirm Obama’s U.S. citizenship, Helfert said.
As the issue came to a vote yesterday, Minnesota Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann rose to object, saying there was not a quorum present.
The House later voted unanimously 378-0 to approve the resolution. Bachmann voted in favor of the resolution.

So, Bachmann affirms the president’s citizenship; over to Hannity.

also true … one hopes that as many in the arab world toss off the dictators, they also start to see that the lies they’ve been fed over the years also include lies about the Israelis and Jews.
As soon as everyone in the ME realises that what the vast majority of the regions population wants is not to be bombed by anyone else - most of the problem is solved right there.

But, you understand, they are only asking questions.
I used to defend FOX news, but Mr Ailes has lost me as a customer. I cannot endure another segment with glenn beck, michael schuyer, alex jones, or any of the truly unhinged far right guests they have featured. I still occasionally sample FNC, but never for more than 2 or 3 minutes at a time. I have decided to go with CNN and BBC on the radio. CNN is more or less objective, at least compared to FNC and MSNBC. BBC is decent exdept for its coverage of Israel, which is biased beyond belief.

So many GOP congresmen were birthers it was unbelievable though.
[Link: thinkprogress.org…]
Blogger-activist Mike Stark has been staking out Capitol Hill recently, trying to get Republican congressmen on the record about whether or not they believe President Obama was born in the United States. Only a couple of GOP congressmen were willing to state without reservation that Obama is the legal and constitutional President of the United States. Many others said they “think there are questions” and would “like to see the documents.” Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) began running away from Stark — literally — to avoid answering the question. Another congressman avoided Stark by hiding in a book store and pretending to look at pens

Reminds me of this story.
A delegation of Norks is visiting Seoul in connection with some negotiations. The head Nork collars this SK delegate and remonstrates:
You’re just putting on a show for us. This apparent prosperity is a show, meant to shame and overawe us.
SK delegate shame-faced-ly confesses: you’re onto us. The cars and all are rented from Japan. But what really gave us the most trouble was borrowing their skyscrapers.

Which confuses the hell out of me to this day, because my memories of the old days were of Truthers getting all but eviscerated and hung with their own entrails for suggesting that Bush was in any way involved in the 3,000 deaths on 9/11. But I guess that was before it became fashionable to believe that the government was the enemy, 10 times out of 10.

Unfortunately, Syria is going to be hard to capsize. Al-Asad, I have stated before, has a worse history than Qaddafi. I would go as far as to say that Israel shouldn’t even deal with Syria, even if by some miracle they stopped supporting Hezbollah and let the Golan Heights be. And my opinion about the Golan Heights issue is in a distinct minority on this board, so please don’t give me flak for it.

I don’t know your opinion on the Golan, so I won’t give you flak. As for assad, he will shed lots of blood and be supported by the iranians and hezbollah thugs. And he will do most of it outside the glare of publicity. But Syria is a HUGE big deal because if it does fall, it is also a black eye for nasrallah and also the iranians. The stakes there could not be higher.

I say this: No matter what Syria does positive, don’t talk or deal with them. There government was (and presumably is) willing to slaughter tens of thousands to kill much less numerous political opponents. I don’t care who the opponents are, what happened at Hama was in no way justifiable.

Al-Assad’s fall would be welcomed by the Iranians if it meant the Brotherbood could get in.
Syria - if memory serves - is a fairly secular country goverened by the same political “party” that Saddam Hussein (great Iranian friend) was also a leader of.

That was what the pan arab nationalist movement was all about. Notice how Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen, Sudan and Egypt all have Ba’ath parties?
The only enduring political movements draw legitimacy from the people. That takes time to build. Larger regional federations, religious scholarship and military power all produce relatively ephemeral governments.

Al-Assad’s fall would be welcomed by the Iranians if it meant the Brotherbood could get in.
Some thoughts I have:
It seems to me that much of the basis to these revolutions are tribal conflicts as much as the specific behavior of any given ruler. Tribalisms also tend to have sectarian dimensions, but I think the tribe comes first.
Iraq is tribal and was under Saddam. Libya is tribal. Syria is tribal. Bahrain is sectarian, but I suspect also tribal, as is Saudi, or for that matter any rule by a “royal” family, which is a tribe. Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria I know less of, but I think have common issues. Even Lebanon which in many ways has been the most cosmopolitan and international (and best food) of them all, suffers from the same problems.
Some of these are or were worse rulers than others, but all result in a privileged ruling class, typically identifiable by family name alone (as are the ruled, like that woman in Libya yesterday). Egypt may be somewhat the exception due to longer history; much longer history. The other “nations” were artificially created only a few generations ago, out of groups of semi nomadic tribes.
However, there are no inherently “bad” tribes. They are still the same peoples, so why should one expect one tribe (or temporary group) that takes power to be better than that before?
Right now the revolutionaries seem cohesive because they operate under the maxim that “my enemy’s enemy is my friend”, but that is not a stable unifying political concept.
It seems to me that the one potentially unifying power is Islam if in a form that minimizes the sectarian bigotries, and the one organization I have heard of that may be capable of that is the Muslim Brotherhood, whose name is well chosen in that regard.
I am not entirely optimistic in where all this will lead, although I don’t necessarily think it need be worse than perpetual family dictatorships.
