Fahrenheit 9/11 on the State Department’s Dime

An LGF correspondent who wishes to remain anonymous forwarded the following email to me, which was sent to all the grad students at Georgetown’s Department of Government today. One might think that students from the Middle East and North Africa already get enough anti-American propaganda from their own governments. But apparently, the US State Department will be paying for a little more. A little Michael Moore.

And notice that the man in charge of a university department’s honors program can’t spell “screen” or “introductory.”

All,

I need your help with a staffing emergency for my State Department-sponsored summer program for students from the Middle East and North Africa, which has already started.

I need to find a female chaperone for the group who is available from July 18-August 13 (27 days). It pays $80/day (for a total of about $2100). All fieldtrip entrance fees, transportation costs and meals (up to a limit) are covered. This includes a trip to the AFI Silver Theater to screeen Fahrenheit 911, a Yankees game, the Met in NYC and the oustanding Barnes Collection outside of Philadelphia. (Un) Fortunately it does entail living in the dormitories until July 31st and eating as many meals as possible with the group in the cafeteria (all paid for, of course). Also, there is a 7 day trip to New York City and Philadelphia (as well as day trips around our area)—where you would be put up in a hotel (as well as for the final week here). The students are a great bunch and you would also have the pleasure of working and travelling with Charles Kiame (the male chaperone) and me. Besides, the worst introdutory, orientation and jet-lag issues are over.

The State Department’s desired profile is a female graduate student who speaks Arabic. But, at this very late date, I will take a non-Arabic speaker and even a non-graduate student (if you know of somebody), but not a non-female (!). If you want to do this (and ingratiate yourself to me), please let me know asap. If you know of someone who might be interested, please let them or me know asap.

It’s really important that I find someone, so that the Department and the University don’t look bad (and don’t lose future business from the State Department).

All the best!

Eric L.
