David Hailey’s “Analysis” is a Fraud

Wizbang has the goods on David Hailey’s Bush memo font study.

It’s this simple: he faked his examples. Go to page 9 of the PDF file from his site and zoom in on the superscript “th” in “111th.”

And as Wizbang reports, Hailey even left the Photoshop document he used to fake his examples in a publicly accessible folder on his web site.

Wow. Caught red-handed, professor.

Now that he’s being exposed around the blogosphere, let’s see how long it takes Hailey to notice the web traffic and remove the incriminating files from his server. (Too late, of course, as I and many others have made copies already.)

UPDATE at 9/30/04 1:51:46 pm:

Paul at Wizbang writes:

And Professor, if you are reading this- and I know someone will mail it to you, I have downloaded your entire website as evidence and I saved screen caps of it, so don’t bother delete it. I also had an interesting phone call with the head of your department. You might give him a call.

UPDATE at 9/30/04 2:09:51 pm:

If you’re interested in digging around through his other source files, here they are.

UPDATE at 9/30/04 2:59:03 pm:

This is going to be a big disappointment for the kidz at Daily “Screw Them” Kos, who were crowing about Hailey’s hoax yesterday:

I continue to be amazed by the power of the right wing echo chamber to bring people to their knees. This “squeaky wheel” minority is exercising immense power to silence relevant and important issues…while beating the drum of such minor inanity such as the color of Kerry’s tan.

Due in large part to the heroic efforts of the Kos diaries of “Hunter”..I’ve been of the opinion that those memos are legit. This independent study seems to cement that belief. Unless serious pressure can be placed on CBS to stop cowering to the rightwing noise machine, I fear they’re the next domino of journalism to fall.

 Frank says:

You see, when I was a kid I used to save up for a month, so I could get an R&B album and, the same day, the completed works of Anton Webern. Maybe that means something. Maybe that tells you something about my music. -- Excerpt from the book "Rock and Other Four Letter Words", copyright 1968.
