Kos: Proud of "Screw Them"

Sun, Jun 18, 2006 at 4:41:13 pm PDT

Expose the Left has video of Markos Moulitsas “Screw Them” Zuniga appearing on CNN’s Reliable Sources, offering the lamest possible excuse for his foul comment about murdered US citizens: Kos: Republicans Upset About “Screw Them” Remark Because It Got People “Engaged In Politics”.

KURTZ: Now as you know, “National Review’s” Byron York resurrected a quote from you, this was after four American contractors were killed in Iraq in 2004. The quote was, I feel nothing over the death of mercenaries. They are there to wage war for profits, screw them. You dealt with this at the time and you expressed regret. My question is, are you prepared for the extra scrutiny that comes with this higher profile you have, whether you particularly want to be out there as the symbol of the blogging movement or not?

MOULITSAS: Absolutely. To me in a way it’s funny that they have not updated their talking points in two years. And so they want to keep resurrecting an old quote, there’s nothing I can do about it. What I can do is I can say the fact is the reason, the context for that quote was solidarity with my brothers and sisters in arms, Marines and soldiers. I wore combat boots. I served during the first Gulf war and people are making a choice between private armies and mercenaries. I make my choice. I stand behind our men and women in uniform and I’m not going to apologize for that. But they’re going to keep resurrecting that and that’s fine. That’s what they do. They smear, they attack, they don’t like the fact that people are getting engaged in politics, that people are getting involved. There are too many turf to protect so they’ll keep doing that and that’s fine. I can fight back.

This is the prototype “progressive” response when called on their mean-spiritedness and hatred; they paint themselves as victims, under attack for their courageous beliefs and mad skillz at speaking truth to the power of THE MAN!

Although he now proudly refuses to apologize, “Screw Them” Kos tried to hide his remarks soon after they were noticed (by LGF and others), and he’s still doing it.

To see what I mean, here’s the discussion thread where the comment is posted: Daily Kos :: Corpses on the Cover. Scroll about halfway down the page and you’ll find it, with the title “Every death should be on the front page.”

The date next to Kos’s name is supposed to be a “permalink” to that comment and the ones responding to it. Try the other permalinks on that page. They all work as designed.

But if you click the link next to Kos’s name ... it takes you to a completely unrelated page. This is a deliberate “redirect,” put in place to make it impossible to link directly to the “Screw them” comment.

He’s proud of this, eh? Strange way to show it.

I'm beginning to think that as dead as it's been, he needs some more trolls to liven things up. This place has been a morgue today.

7 packsoldier  Sun, Jun 18, 2006 2:47:29pm

Kos is the perfect hood ornament for today's Democratic Party. The more camera time he gets, the better.

8 Drogheda  Sun, Jun 18, 2006 2:47:53pm

So every death should be on the front page?

Maybe Markos will make the front page soon.

While I'm here, congratulations to Aussie Geoff Ogilvy on winning the U.S. Open. This should lighten the mood down under after losing to Brazil today.

A titanic collapse by Phil Mickelson. Not to mention tight collars of Colin Montgomerie, Padraig Harrington and Jim Furyk.

Harrington, in particular, should be crying in his Guinness after that gruesome triple bogey on 18 last night.

I'm still not clear on how "Screw em" supports the Marines and Army.
I wonder, marines always say they are marines forever, i.e., no such thing as an "ex-marine". Regarding the like of this idiot and Murtha, do the Marines have the equivalent of "Excommunication"? If not, they ought to create it.

OK my bad, he wasn't a marine. Of course, I should have realized that, but my point still stands.

17 Just_A_Grunt  Sun, Jun 18, 2006 2:55:01pm

If the interviewer had been up to spped on the Kos Kings blog he could have challenged him on the support the Army and Marines comment by asking about the blog he wrote asking Dems to drop the charade of saying they support the troops.

You have an odd way of demonstrating your "solidarity" with your military "brothers and sisters", Markos. Notice the Marxian buzz-words he uses in his response, that I have pasted in scare quotes. The agenda is willing, yet the message is weak. There is no hiding from your true intentions, Mr. Moulitsas. Your 'silent' opposition grows more vocal every day. Your moment in the sun will surely fade into the tainted sunset of moral and ideological bankruptcy.

19 Just_A_Grunt  Sun, Jun 18, 2006 2:57:49pm

My understanding of Mouldyslimes army service is that he was in Air Defense Artillery. I have not been able to determine how long a career he had and while he states he served during the time of the first Gulf War I believe he was at Ft Sill, OK during the actual war. As with all libs it is very hard to get details on thier actual military service which they always claim to be so proud of.

20 Thanos  Sun, Jun 18, 2006 2:57:50pm

Out of curiosity what do they say the acronym KOS stands for? I don't want to hit the site and give them the page reads to find out.

26 Darwin Akbar  Sun, Jun 18, 2006 3:08:11pm

"...they smear, they attack...."

A little bit of projection, methinks?

Hey, if the tinfoil hat fits, Kos, wear it.

27 wordwarp  Sun, Jun 18, 2006 3:10:53pm

what exactly did Kos do in the military? He's such a small, effeminate guy, I can't imagine him putting his "combat" boots anywhere but under a desk.

28 Just_A_Grunt  Sun, Jun 18, 2006 3:13:42pm

I believe he was in Air Defense Artillery (ADA), it is an mos which also allows women in it. Depending on which weapons system he was on there would not be a great deal of physical strength needed.

29 Thanos  Sun, Jun 18, 2006 3:14:50pm

Ok, curiosity satisfied -- for online gamers in player vs player games KOS is an acronym for "Kill on Sight"... a list kept by most guilds of obnoxious players who should be given an instant dirt nap when sighted.

One of the contractors murdered in Fallujah was an ex-military man, and if I remember correctly, he was also friends with Michael Yon (Yon is a former SF guy), which led to Yon becoming a journalist in Iraq.

So, Kos is saying "screw [you]" to a veteran killed by a mob, and yet tries to cloak himself in the flag. What a disgusting piece of garbage.

Good thing for him that affirmative discrimination got him into BU law school or he'd be annoying customers with his crackpot theories at the local quick-e-mart.

39 hous bin pharteen  Sun, Jun 18, 2006 3:26:07pm

It is my understanding he served "in the rear with the beer" as the saying goes. He served "during" the 1st Gulf War. IIRC it was in Germany and the US. He was not in the actuaul Gulf War. Kinda misleading huh. (No offense meant to the support troops. They are vital)

Now the "mercenaries" he pisses on? They were serving in a combat war zone. To qualify for one of these jobs with Blackwater I believe you have to be a pretty squared away former soldier. Most have combat experiance. I believe they pick from ex-Seals, Green Berets, Rangers, etc.
I can see right there where little limp wrist Kos would be hostile to them. They were getting paid as civilians to serve their country.

Now Kos is being paid to sell his country down the road to a Marxist/Socialist utopia. Like they have not killed enough people trying to make that happen.

40 mich-again  Sun, Jun 18, 2006 3:27:46pm

Nice work exposing how Kos disappeared the "screw them" remark Charles. Markos is such a lying jackass. His site is not as much about people getting "engaged in politics" as it is an online BDS-sufferer support group where wounded LWNJ egos can commiserate in peaceful harmony without any anti-idiotarians in the room.

Try to engage the Kiddies in debate, and Markos will simply erase your comments and shut off your posting privelege.

One of the contractors killed in Fallujah was actually a minor celebrity or at least had his 15 minutes of fame. He was a contestant on a game show hosted by R Lee Ermey which was contest among military and law enforcement types using the skill and training they possessed. I can't remember the name of the show but the guy was a former Navy SEAL.

If Kos, the little dickhead who probably just joind the service for the GI benefits, is going to stand by his "screw 'em" comments, then certainly he wouldn't mind them being disseminated to American voters in the form of TV, radio and newspaper ads explaining just how Kos and his ilk "support the troops".

There's apparently a piece in the NY Times about the unseemly relationships Kos and his co author Armstrong have with various politicians. The politicos pay, Kos and Armstrong hype them.

Just like BBoard stock touting in the tech boom of the late 90s. And it seems that Armstrong has experience at that, having apparently been enjoined by the SEC to never do so again (fines pending).

Nutcase attacks statue in Egypt in the name of Sharia.

Statue attack fuels fears of an Islamist Egypt [Link: www.telegraph.co.uk...]

A religiously motivated attack on statues at a museum in Cairo has sparked outcry in Egypt and fuelled fears that the country is veering towards an Islamic state.

The attack on three artworks, by a black-clad and veiled woman screaming, "Infidels, infidels!" followed a fatwa issued by the Grand Mufti of Cairo, Ali Gomaa, which banned all decorative statues of living beings.

Although the ancient treasures of Egypt have been protected under Islam so far, an increasing extremism in the country could make statues such as the quartzite head of Nefertiti, the colossus of Amenhotep, and the golden death mask of Tutankhamen possible targets in future.

At least The Telegraph has the balls to carry this story. I don't see it in the BBC anywhere.

Every death SHOULD be on the front page-

The only problem is if the MSM were as orgasmic about reporting the enemy casualties as they were about our own, there wouldnt be enough paper to print them all.

Maybe we should start a crossover campaign as the dems have done in the past to pick off republicans they don't like in primaries.

MOULITSAS: Absolutely.

Fer sur.

To me in a way it’s funny that they have not updated their talking points in two years.

Where have you been dude? We make fun of you just about every day?

And so they want to keep resurrecting an old quote, there’s nothing I can do about it.

Except try to hide it.

What I can do is I can say the fact is the reason, the context for that quote was solidarity with my brothers and sisters in arms, Marines and soldiers.

Yeah, well no. See dipshit "that quote" are your words you either stand behind them or you don't.

I wore combat boots.

Ah, you're one of the ignorant violent rednecks that couldn't get a job as a chicken plucker huh?

I served during the first Gulf war

Did you murder any civilians in cold blood? A congressman told me you military guys do that.

I make my choice. I stand behind our men and women in uniform and I’m not going to apologize for that.

Talk about a wicked ass non sequitur. Who the hell asked you to do that?

But they’re going to keep resurrecting that and that’s fine.

Good, then we won't have to listen to you whine about it anymore right?

That’s what they do.

Yes we quote you.

They smear, they attack,

By quoting you?

they don’t like the fact that people are getting engaged in politics, that people are getting involved.

I've been involved in politics since before you born.

There are too many turf to protect so they’ll keep doing that and that’s fine.

Did ya leave some words out of that thought, cuz that there don't make no sense.

I can fight back.

Yes, you can. And let me just go ahead and make a prediction here, you'll attack the people who point out your words when you find it inconvenient to be quoted but won't repeat those words you claim to stand behind.

Let the people see what war is like. This isn't an Xbox game. There are real repercussions to Bush's folly.
That said, I feel nothing over the death of merceneries. They aren't in Iraq because of orders, or because they are there trying to help the people make Iraq a better place. They are there to wage war for profit. Screw them.

I wore combat boots.

I served during the first Gulf war

Technically true, but also TOTAL BULLSHIT! The little weasel never even got CLOSE to a combat zone!

Let us consult the Book of Kos:

Immediately after high school, at the age of 17, I enrolled in the US Army, and served in Lawton, Oklahoma and Bamberg, Germany. I was a 13P -- an MLRS/Lance Fire Direction Specialist (artillery), and served between 1989-92.

And here's his description of his military "experience":

The military is perhaps the ideal society -- we worked hard but the Army took care of us in return. All our basic needs were met -- housing, food, and medical care. It was as close to a color-blind society as I have ever seen. We looked out for one another. The Army invested in us. I took heavily subsidized college courses and learned to speak German on the Army's dime. I served with people from every corner of the country. I got to party at the Berlin Wall after it fell and explored Prague in those heady post-communism days. I wasn't just a tourist; I was a witness to history.

What a [expletive deleted] phoney jerk!

/for you ribbon analysts, there's a picture of Kos in dress uniform, just follow the first link

I got a little psych training, not much.

Truly projection.

He makes the comment.

Now with the audacity to make the issue about him. He is now the victim for what he said.

What a little bastard.

I was in during that time as well.

I wonder how many of these troops he stands in solidarity with, does he provide for?

Markos, do you give to the kids of these deployed service members?

Did you send anything to them last Christmas, or any other holiday?

What a horse's ass.

What a shitbird.

Thanks. Your post made it clear just who Kos is against...real americans who defend America.

J.D. (#96),

Thanks so much for the whole quote. I can now see that:

the fact is the reason, the context for that quote was solidarity with my brothers and sisters in arms, Marines and soldiers.

How anyone could read:

Let the people see what war is like. This isn't an Xbox game. There are real repercussions to Bush's folly.
That said, I feel nothing over the death of merceneries. They aren't in Iraq because of orders, or because they are there trying to help the people make Iraq a better place. They are there to wage war for profit. Screw them.

and not recognize Markos's intent was to express

solidarity with my brothers and sisters in arms

must be some kinda ignorant redneck who couldn't get a job as a chicken plucker.

And apparently Markos thinks I have "stupid" written across my forehead.

105 wanumba  Sun, Jun 18, 2006 5:45:14pm

Markos's twitch-o-meter went spastic when he discovered the dreaded "mercenary". He's a socialist, so he's reacting out of the socialist indoctrination of complete disgust for the pursuit of profits (even as he grubs for them himself). He shows an abysmal understanding of the role of mercenaries in every war that has been fought on the planet, including our own Revolutionary War. Sierra Leonians who hired the South African Executive Solutions mecenaries to protect the people from vicious rebels have a lot different view of mercenaries than Markos entertains.

Well damn, first commenter hit it on the head.

Just screw him... Markos that is.

There's been much ado about my indifference to the Mercenary deaths in Falluja a couple days ago. I wrote in some diary comments somewhere that "I felt nothing" and "screw them". ...

And thank you for reminding us of their mission.

Daily Kos will forever be equated with this.
We will see to it.

115 inmypajamas  Sun, Jun 18, 2006 6:26:27pm

Ann Coulter has taken a lot of heat this week but Markos proves her greater point once again - just look at how fast he grabbed for his Cloak of Infallibility when confronted on his vicious comment. "I wore combat boots. I served..." Well, I guess that means we just can't question his comments, his motives or his patriotism, can we? That would be nothing more than a "smear", an "attack".

It's a wonder he can get access to that Infallibility Cloak what with its having to pass through so many hands and with Murtha and Kerry hogging it all the time.

The only good thing is that the more he steps out into the limelight, the longer the shadow cast from his rash remark. He will be explaining himself for a long time to come.

116 xenophobic  Sun, Jun 18, 2006 6:29:38pm

if anyone remembers watching Combat Missions, with Scott Helveston the Navy Seal "Blackwater" contractor that was killed in Fallijuh, I saw an interesting article recently about a lawsuit filled against Blackwater for the wrongful death of all of the contractors, due to severe negligence on Blackwaters part, the interesting thing is the star witness against Blackwater? John Potter, Navy SEAL likewise from the show Combat Missions:

blood is thicker than blackwater
the lawsuit

it looks like Blackwater has recently been accused of witness tampering by re-hiring John Potter and moving him to Afghanistan before the defense got their deposition from him.

Reading the families claim, and claims of animosity by Blackwater brass, against Scott Helveston, I can forsee hotwater ahead for "blackwater"

I think a fair amount of KOS's traffic is conservatives checking out the site to see what the kool aid kids are thinking.I have no idea what percentage it might be but it could be maybe 10-15%.I know I check the site out every so often. It makes me feel like taking a shower but I want to know what the enemy is thinking. How many of you visit his site ?

118 niagarafalls  Mon, Jun 19, 2006 2:43:31am

flawed skull,

welcome. It's good to see more people from the Buffalo area on lgf. Nice to know not everyone here is a moonbat.

Cindy Sheehan was in town and also met with deserters across the river in Ft Erie. What was interesting is the large media contingent and the small number of actual supporters. Of course our ultra-liberal Buffalo News (affectionately known as the Snooze here) went all out in glorifying her.

119 Poitiers-Lepanto  Mon, Jun 19, 2006 4:59:01am

Screw you, frigging subversive. You support our enemies every day with every thing you do.

But then again, we know that the arab countries can shower a lot of money on all their friends, we must not be surprised by the crowds of rats running to get some coins under the table.

Screw you.

I served during the first Gulf war

File this one under "I still have the hat".

and people are making a choice between private armies and mercenaries

It's bad enough to do the ol' rhetorical "false choice" fallacy, but it's even worse to do it so badly that it makes no sense.

122 Occasional Reader  Mon, Jun 19, 2006 5:31:22am

Let me try out the Kos technique:

I fought during the first Gulf War.

This is a true statement. During the first Gulf War, I'm pretty sure I got into at least one fight, most likely at a bar in Washington, DC. (Maybe it was just a yelling match, but still...)
