Tariq Ramadan at the NYT: “Slim, Handsome, Elegant”

Another attempt at whitewashing the Muslim Brotherhood’s European Trojan Horse, Tariq Ramadan, at the New York Times, in a six-page article by Ian Buruma: Tariq Ramadan Has an Identity Issue.

Buruma comes to the conclusion that Ramadan is just too slick to be a radical Islamist, that he doesn’t promote jihad, that we should “engage” with his Dark Ages views on women and religion and society.

After all, he owns really nice suits.

Slim, handsome and dressed in a very elegant suit, he spoke softly in fluent English, with a slight French accent. His first languages were French and Arabic, but he heard English at home in Geneva, spoken mostly by visiting Pakistanis.

Perhaps I didn’t push hard enough.

Didn’t push a radical Islamic front man hard enough? The New York Times? Never!

To be fair, at least Buruma raises some of the issues around Ramadan, which is more than many other US media outlets have done in their whitewash pieces—although he quickly dismisses the concerns as unimportant and probably exaggerated.

Lots more about Ramadan in this LGF search: Tariq Ramadan.
