Breaking: Terror Attack at US Base in Japan

Mon, Feb 12, 2007 at 8:29:41 am PST

Blast reported near U.S. base in Japan.

TOKYO - A U.S. Army official confirmed a small explosion outside an American base south of Tokyo, but there were no reports of injuries or damage. An explosion was heard near the base late Monday, and police suspected an attempted attack on the base, Kyodo News agency reported.

The blast was in the area of the U.S. Army’s Camp Zama, Kyodo said. The report did not say whether there were injuries or damage.

Police found parts of “launch pad” near the base, Kyodo said, and investigators suspected a “guerrilla attack.”

Launch pad? It sounds like someone was trying to fire mortars or rockets into the camp? Who do they think they are? Palestinian freedom fighters? /if you had to ask..

Japanese communists!

My thoughts exactly. This was probably carried out by left-overs from JRA.

10 JammieWearingFool  Mon, Feb 12, 2007 6:33:12am

Let the blame game begin.

Al Gore blames global warming, The Dixie Chicks blame George Bush, and The Pantsuit blames U.S. involvement in Iraq.
11 Poitiers-Lepanto  Mon, Feb 12, 2007 6:33:30am

It can't be "commies", they are against global warming, and shooting RPGs or mortars is lethal for the planet...

Don't know. Anyone get a look at what kind of scarves they were wearing?

There goes Jack Murtha's "Redeployment to Okinawa" Plan. Japan is too dangerous.

Either RoPers with help form Iran or maybe even the ChiComs.

Obviously, the sheer volume of possible opponents who could be behind this boggles the mind...

I wish we just had one group who had stated their utter hatred for us, their desire to wipe us off the map, and who had threatened to strike us at any foreign soil location possible...

I hope they didn't hit that nice Gyoza place nearby. They had the BEST Gyoza ever!

Damn JRA!

21 Just_A_Grunt  Mon, Feb 12, 2007 6:37:01am

Sounds kind of amateurish in it's execution. There is just too few details at this time. However it is rumored that the attackers were wearing "Hello Kitty" scarves.

I'm with shug (#3) it must be the Amish.

The U.S. if fair game all over the world? I hope Bush & Co. are paying attention no matter who ends up being the culprits.

We need to make it crystal clear that you attack us, and we will hunt you down.

Yeah, I know, Bush already said that, huh?

I take offense to that. The Ninja Turtles are on our side.
It could have been Speed Racer though...I can just see it now...
"We're driving to the base, haha, we're going to blow it up, haha, Go Speed Racer?!"

Just remember perps - they still hang people in Japan - at unannounced dates and times so as to avoid protest scenes.

They were around enough back in 89' to delay the "death announcement" of Hirohito by 3 days. But now?..Eh..not so much. Now that we have almost zero presence in Japan save for Okinawa and Yokusuka they have nothing to whine about. All of our other bases are almost ghost towns now.

My thinking no longer dwells on the "last" place but rather the next place. This may not have a thing to do with the table cloth wearing, blood god worshipping cult, with a pedophile leader but on the other hand I like to keep my options open.

Whoever was involved will simply state that they did it because of US intervention in Iraq. Then the MSM and the Dems will fawn over the fact that this tragedy could have been avoided if we never got involved in an illegal war that never had anythign to do with terrorism...

We all know that our agression has created terrrorism...

GLOBAL WARMING - IT'S UN-STOPPABLE!

Camp Zama is location of some of our U.S. Army Japan Command (the 9th) and Control and Signals and Intelligence Services.

They even have a webpage.

Sounds like a probing action...Norks? Iranian? AQ? Red Army Japan? Could be all of them.

48 capt_doug61  Mon, Feb 12, 2007 7:16:30am

It was most likely that little kid from many of those Japanese monster films that hung around being too friendly with assorted giant monsters.
Well Kenny that's the last time we'll protect you from Godzilla or Gamera!

49 GOBAN  Mon, Feb 12, 2007 7:28:49am

Nothing to take too serious here. The JRA, et. al. just love launching rockets and setting off loud noise makers in Japan. Its become a kind of tradition. They have gone from being potentially harmful or even deadly to the good old Tennis Ball cannon of your youth. Its the standard asshattery for over there.

Gaijin are too easily noticed to go sneaking around at 11pm, then setting up a "launcher" and running like hell after they set it off.

50 sandyk  Mon, Feb 12, 2007 7:29:58am

And so it begins. There is a Conference on Global warming in Alaska here this week. I can't wait for all the bs on the news all week.

51 karmic_inquisitor  Mon, Feb 12, 2007 7:45:15am

I am starting to come around to the Democrat's thinking on keeping our troops safe.

It is clear that we must leave Japan.

The question is where to park our Marines and fleets.

Our own harbors aren't safe either. Not safe enough.

I propose we dig a giant lake in Oklahoma. Lake Murtha. We strategically redeploy our Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force and Coast Guard to the Lake Murtha Safe Serviceman Complex. We can keep them safe there.

To make it politically plausible, that section of Oklahoma will be annexed by Pennsylvania, so that it can be in Murtha's district.

America's Armed Forces - stronger when they are safer!

57 haakondahl  Mon, Feb 12, 2007 1:19:41pm

At first, I'm not worried about this. I live in japan, and every once in a while a couple of these nuts pop a fizzling firecracker across the fence. It's leftist whackjobs, or rightist whackjobs, I forget which.
On the other hand, I would hope that this is investigated thoroughly BY AMERICANS to look for connections to more, uh, "reputable" forms of terror. I don't trust Japanese law enforcement for much beyond politely ticketing parked cars.
