Thin-Skinned Candidate Says What? - Update: Tenn. GOP is 'Low Class'

Mon, May 19, 2008 at 8:47:19 am PDT

Barack Obama is becoming known as the snapping poodle of the 2008 election, snarling and lashing out and whining about poor treatment as he runs for the most powerful position in the world: Obama tells Tenn.’s GOP: ‘Lay off my wife’.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democrat Barack Obama has a message for Tennessee’s Republican Party: “Lay off my wife.”

Obama and his wife, Michelle, were asked in an interview aired Monday on ABC’s “Good Morning America” about an online video last week by Tennessee’s GOP taking her to task for a comment some considered unpatriotic.

Obama said it was unacceptable for anyone to attack his family.

Obama, of course, deliberately sent his wife out to campaign for him. But criticizing her is off limits.

Is there any criticism of Barack Obama that he would consider acceptable?

UPDATE at 5/19/08 8:56:46 am:

Obama also called the Tennessee Republican Party “low class.” This is all part of his grand strategy to unite the country.

“The GOP, should I be the nominee, can say whatever they want to say about me, my track record,” Obama said. “If they think that they’re going to try to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful because that I find unacceptable, the notion that you start attacking my wife or my family.”

He called the strategy “low class.”

So, can we get a rundown of what subjects are verbotten?

You can't talk about his relationship with Rezko, Bill Ayers, race, Rev. Wright, his money connections, his wife, or his lack of experience, character, or fitness to serve as President of the US.

Guess all we can talk about are his waffles and fondness for arugula and bitterness.

Poor little Obama..... He doesn't like others catching him in his lies or his missus in her hate. Sorry Obama...this is reality, live with it or change your ways. Say what you mean and mean what you say in every instance instead of constantly whining "they misinterpreted me"!

14 seekeroftruth  Mon, May 19, 2008 8:51:09am

She is campaigning on his behalf so she's fair game. Period.
If he doesn't like it, then take her off the campaign trail.

re: #8 savage_nation

If the candidate or his wife interject themselves in the campaign they are fair game.

His wife is fair game since she's campaigning on his behalf. That she makes inane, insane, and downright rude and obnoxious comments about her fellow Americans is most definitely fair game.

His kids are off limits since they have nothing to do with the campaign.

Likewise, Hillary and Bill are both legitimate targets on the campaign trail. However, so is Chelsea given that she's campaigning for her mom. Stuff she says is legitimate fodder for criticism.

It doesn't seem to be a problem if the MSM or bloggers criticize Bill Clinton. In fact, it's expected. But criticize Obama's wife, who campaigns for him, is "low class".

The fact is, the MSM is terrified of criticizing a black guy, because they fear being branded as racist.

42 Diamond Bullet  Mon, May 19, 2008 8:55:23am

It's always interesting how someone who loves to criticize America hates to be criticized themselves. Sort of tells you where their priorities lie.

The only ones that should be off-limits are his kids, the rest, FAIR GAME!

Unless they are stumping for him...beyond simply appearing at his side at campaign stops.

If they are making speeches or ads then they're fair game, and I include his kids in that. Given how slimy B. Hussein and his campaign are I can see him cutting an ad with his kids saying how cruel and racist America is for not supporting him.

45 dogma237  Mon, May 19, 2008 8:55:39am

Hows about when his BFF the Trib opened up sealed divorce records against the wishes of Jeri Ryan so Barry could walk with that election? I guess that was fine and dandy as long as it helped him.

Dan Froomkin at the Washington Post ran an entire article attacking Laura Bush when she critized Myanmar over the recent cyclone ("Laura's Bush's Disastrous Diplomacy"). Of course, within a few days it turned out that Laura Bush was 100% right to take on the regime, which rejected aid, then stole it and gave rotting rice to the few people who survived (after India gave them 2 days warning). I find it astonishing that so many people have jumped on his bandwagon of hope and change, and yet they couldn't cite a single damned reason to do so other than he's not Hillary - as though that's sufficient. They don't know about Ayers, Wright, or anything else - and if they are familiar with those issues, don't seem to care that he associates with terrorists, racists, and anti-American leftist/socialist/marxists (take your pick depending on which one of his associates he wants to most associate with during his formative years).

Well, even though I'm repeating something I said on the DT today: Should Obama be elected POTUS, Michelle would be First Lady. That means in her travels around the US she'd be seen as representing the Administration. BUT in her travels around the World, she'd be seen as representing AMERICA - that, Barry, is as good a reason as any to question her credentials and especially her credibility.

re: #88 lawhawk

The more I hear about Obama, the more I find him incredibly distasteful.

145 Honorary Yooper  Mon, May 19, 2008 9:12:00am

Here's an article I posted in the spinoff links yesterday just for starters on Illinois and Obama:

Curtain Time for Barack Obama - Part V

To understand how the Combine works in Illinois it's important to recognize that the state is divided into three levels of political clout, beginning with Chicago, Cook County and the state of Illinois, according to Chicago columnist Ray Hanania.

It's also important to remember that in December 2004, when Obama went house-hunting with his real estate fairy Tony Rezko, he did not consider the adverse effects on his presidential bid because Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was still the candidate.

[snip]

During his interview with the Times, regarding Rezko, Obama said, ”I have not talked to him since he was indicted.”

However, he apparently forgot to mention that three weeks after Rezko was indicted, and just two days before Blagojevich’s reelection in November 2006, his wife Michelle was the special guest of honor at a charity fashion show, organized and sponsored by the wives of top members of the “Combine.”

Rita Rezko with her position on the Cook County Employees Appeals Board, chaired the event and the honorary co-chairperson was Blagojevich's wife, Patti.

[snip]

The Tribune quoted Senator Obama as stating: "In any program like this, there are going to be people with clout who seek to take advantage of it and, if we don't scrutinize it carefully and if there is not good, strong independent oversight, then potentially it is subject to abuse."

"The objective of affirmative action," he said, "is to open up doors to people who don't have opportunity."

Two months after Obama made these profound comments, on March 17, 2005, the Sun-Times reported that two restaurants at O'Hare “have been allowed to rake in millions of dollars, even though the Daley administration learned back in 2002 that the company running them was probably a phony minority "front" for Panda Express," and Tony Rezko.

[snip]

Under a plan no doubt developed by the fine-tuners of the Chicago racket probably for Blagojevich: "Obama will provide additional resources to the federal Community Development Financial Institution Fund, the Small Business Administration and other federal agencies, especially to their local branch offices, to address the needs identified by the Director of Urban Policy."

With this plan in place, Rezko's appointment as Director was a given. If the Combine’s plot to get rid of Patrick Fitzgerald and shut down Board Games had worked, Rezko would have landed an office right smack in the middle of the White House.

And there's more.

Exposing Barack by exposing his wife's blatant anti-American unpatriotic comments and views is certainly acceptable. But, DO NOT fall for the trap the Bob Dole campaign fell for. They thought they were successfully tearing down Bill Clinton by attacking Hillary for her socialistic closed door created HillaryHealthCare Plan. The attack failed miserably. Focus on Barry, as attacking the wife seldom works. She ain't the candidate. Yeah, she's got an ear, a big one. But, she ain't Barack. I suspect dumbdolt Americans such as those attending this weekends million-man march, oops, I mean 75K rally can't make the connection.

2010 Healthy Body and Single Payer Economic Reform Act:
This will allow civil fines and being taking off Hillary/Obamacare if you engage in certain risky acts Smoking/Drinking/Ect. They will sell this by increasing benefits for those that don’t engage in risky behaviour... The real reason for the act is that it’s the only way to keep the program afloat short of soyulant green. They will probably throw a bone to the potheads attaching a provision for legal MJ to be purchased from the government weed store of course (It will be crappy so that the pols grow and smuggle operation will continue to pour in euros/gold/goods)

2011 Enviromental Defense Act
Mile based highway usage tax with tiered rate to limit long trips (This will use the traffic study GPS)
Tax Credit for Mass Transit
Several Additions to the ESL and Wetlands
No leasing of lumber or grazing rights on any Federal property
No motorized traffic in National Forests
Permit required for National Forest Access

2011 Banking Security Act
(Note the currency will have changed/converted by now at a 2:1 or 3:1 USD:New Currency rate) To combat terrorisim and fraud of course.
There will be a call to use the previously “Medical Use only” RFID chips as Cashless Currency accounts. I mean why not it’s so much safer (Never mind the fact that there will be a huge black market in cloning RFID chips, perhaps by former MD’s that did not want to work for 40k)

2012 Social Security Promise Keeper Act
You will be means tested and if you are above the “mid class” aka you can afford to live in no govt housing line at FY 2012 50-70% of your 401K/SEP/IRA will be withdrawn taxed and the left over will go into the SS/HillaryObamacare Fund

You say it has grass-fed beef on the menu, but you use regular beef (with lips and assholes) instead. It would have dark brown mustard and yellow (but no white) cheese. 49% Say Victory in Iraq Likely if McCain Elected

If John McCain is elected President, 49% of voters say it is at least somewhat likely that the United States will win the War in Iraq. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that just 20% believe victory in Iraq is likely if Barack Obama is elected in November.

I find these numbers quite promising this early in a campaign that hasn't really begun. This may be just too easy!

203 Clio  Mon, May 19, 2008 9:22:01am

I am not sure of the statistics, but it seems to me that a lot of obama's delegates were won in primaries held several months ago.

That is, won voters who knew little about him compared to what is known about him now. If those primaries were held now, the results might be quite different.

Perhaps as a general principle primary elections should not be held so long before the nominating convention.

And perhaps they should all be held on the same day, so voters will not be influenced by the outcome of earlier primaries.

Obama: "Both, Brian, although I'm more partial to thongs...I do own some boxers with hearts on them, and will wear them on occasion. I also own briefs, and wear them too. It's all part of my post-racial makeup. And it has a carryover effect whether I'm having tea with Angela Merkel or Achmadinejad."

Brian Williams: "These Republicans who have assaulted you & your wife..."

RUSH: With Obama we started out, we couldn't talk about his big ears 'cause that made him nervous. We've gone from that to this: Not only can we not mention his ears...

We can't talk about his mother.

We can't talk about his father.

We can't talk about his grandmother unless he does, brings her up as a "typical white person."

We can't talk about his wife, can't talk about his preacher, can't talk about his terrorist friends, can't talk about his voting record, can't talk about his religion.

We can't talk about appeasement.

We can't talk about color; we can't talk about lack of color.

We can't talk about race. We can't talk about bombers and mobsters who are his friends. We can't talk about schooling. We can't talk about his name, "Hussein."

We can't talk about his lack of experience. Can't talk about his income. Can't talk about his flag pin.

This started out we can't call him a liberal.

It started out we just couldn't talk about his ears.

Now we can't say anything about him.

Let me try to get this straight.

Michelle Obama says that she is "finally proud of her country" and that our country is "just plain mean". = Good

The President mentioning no name or parties regarding the foolishness of appeasement in our world today, Obama immediately jumps to conclusion that he must have been talking about him, who else is there? = Bad

I am sure that Mr. O thinks that all the members of the GOP are classless, not just the ones in Tennessee. Mr. O. is very much the "equal opportunity" basher. I wish he would name those who he does like. That would be very revealing.

Yes, but (big but?) he's not Hillary. If you're looking for a positive, that's one. [may not be any others]

re: #218 The Other Les

Who is this Todd Stroger?

Todd Stroger is the president of the Cook County Board. He was basically given his job by his Combine allies.

Here's how it went down:

In 2006, Todd's father John Stroger was president of the county board. He was up for re-election, and faced a challenger, Forrest Claypool. John Stroger then had a stroke just before the primary. However, he won the right the be the Dem's nominee in the fall. People kept trying to inquire as to Stroger's condition, and kept being blocked at every turn. A day after the deadline for independents to register for the election, Stroger's condition was made known to the public (after some backroom deals had been made). This was one day too late for Claypool to register as an independent challenger.

The deal was that one of the board members would become board president until November, and that Todd would take his father's place as the nominee. Todd had been a Chicago Aldermen until then, and a staunch Daley ally (as his father had been a Dalye ally as well).

Come November, the Republican candidate for the board presidency was Tony Perica, a board member. The election was predicted to be close. The vote totals from the city came in fine electronically, but the suburban preciencts were having trouble with the system. Thus, they had to send in their votes via truck to the Loop to be counted at the County Building. When the trucks arrived at the County Building, almost all of the seals on the boxes had been broken. Stroger then went on to miracuously win the election 55-45.

The more I hear about Obama, the more I find him incredibly distasteful.

Ya know, for those familiar, those forgiving ones, I think they've been so conditioned that they just expect this of their candidates.

The premise of the Clinton campaign has been that Bill will be the one really running the country if Hillary is elected.

The premise of the Obama campaign has been that Michelle, who was Barack's "mentor" at Chicago's Sidley & Austin law firm, will be a full partner with him in this Presidency. If she's as dominant in their relationship as she now appears to be (and selection of Reverend Wright was largely her call, not his), she may well be running the country behind the scenes. At a minimum, she'll have major influence.

Under these circumstances challenging her politically is completely appropriate.

Boy, if McCain runs his campaign correctly, Obama is down the tubes in a flash. While there are people that will vote for the Democrat no matter what, having a whining wheenie as POTUS and nominal head of the military is just not going to make it for most people. Of course, it is all the bitter people in Kentucky hanging on to their guns and Bibles. The more I see of Obama, the more I doubt he has touched either one of these objects. Get used to it guy, you won't win the POTUS by portraying yourself as a victim. The difference between this guy and McCain who help set a fellow prisoner's compound fracture (administered by the Viet Cong when the fellow tried to escape) at risk to himself by collecting bamboo for the splint and using bandages from his own body is light years apart.

That's why establishment lefties like Kerry and Kennedy supported Obama over Hillary - they want to reassert their dominance over the DLC faction headed by the Clintons.

As for the "he's not Hillary" rationale, it's a fair one to make - but it appears that he's quite likely far worse than Hillary, who at least has "some" experience on her side. Heck, she even is in her second term as Senator. Obama can't even claim that!

Come to think of it he's only served 4 years as a US Senator. And the last one and a half of those years he's been working full time at another job, campaigning for president.

Obama is the one who has harmed his children, by steeping them in the hatred spewed by Jeremiah Wright. They were brought continually to Wright's church to receive the bigotry and anti-white racism and anti-Americanism of Jeremiah Wright. That Obama would stay for 20 years in the arms of Jeremiah Wright is one thing, but to put his children into the arms of Black Liberation Theology is another matter, and for that I cannot forgive Barack Obama, nor his bitter half Michelle Obama.

I'm watching Obalma's campaign stump speech from Oregon on TV right now, for a highly-educated man, he's an utter nincompoop.

He can find logical consequences for sequences of events where there's no correllation. He can misinform by twisting the words of others like nobody's business.

But the man is not a statesman. He's a snake oil salesman.

Is it actually true that the rank & file European views Americans as 'ugly Americans'?

I believe it's true of their socialist leadership, but every Frenchman, Englishman, and German I've discussed this with seems quite enthralled with America.

I strongly suspect this is a false view conjured up by our media....

Yes and no. They are enthralled by everything we have, but don't want to institute the kinds of change needed (e.g., put in more hours at work, or pass less stifling regulations on business) in order to raise their productivity.

Also, in my experience, what passes for conservative thinking in Europe would generally be considered left of center here.

Third, while there is a significant contigent that has been brainwashed to believe that America is w.r.o.n.g. in all things international, even most of the brainwashed are quite ready to be friendly to individual Americans who make the slightest effort to be polite.

O B A M A D I N E J A D!

Something for everyone! A black American, an Arab American, a Totalitarian, a Religious person, knows what's good for us, will tell us what to eat and how much, what temperature to keep our homes, what health care we can have, how we can pay for everything with higher taxes (and those on social security will pay more as well)
And a man that will speak to terrorists, have them as friends, and who probably talks to himself! That way he can be both sides of the same issue! What a great guy!

Wonder when Michelle enticed him to bed if all he could think of to say was present!

385 wanumba  Mon, May 19, 2008 11:06:13am

Here's some more Barack Obama inconveniences that get in the way of his contrived "po' me" image:

The economic level of his father Obama - solid middle/upper middle class Kenya means that it was very likely that the Kenya Obama household had one or more household servants - usually a cleaning girl, sometimes a cook, a nanny for the babies. How likely? It's so common, it'd be unusual NOT to have had domestic staff (at lousy wages). Many many many families have their poorer relations (off the farm) come in to work - in exchange for room and board. It's very typical to have a 12 year old cousin who works all day for her aunt and uncle while her cousins go to school.
Likewise, for his Indonesia sojourn - a father working at a US oil company - a local hire? If they didn't have at a minimum a cook/ housekeeper plus a nanny to help Obama's mother with his half-sister, well ... I'd eat my hat.
Obama in his book said he ran on the street with the sons of tailors and regular workers. Yep, that's completely possible, but he went home to dinner prepared by servants. It's just how those societies operate. Lot's of cheap labor available.

416 irish rose  Mon, May 19, 2008 3:28:57pm

Michelle Obama stands to represent this country in the very vital role of First Lady. And the First Lady traditionally has a very visible role in an administration, not just here at home but also abroad.

So we're going to be critical and ask questions, Barry. Get over it. It is up to us... WE THE PEOPLE... to decide her fitness to fill that role.

This is where I am: I know the important role that a First Lady plays, and I don't want to see your wife in that role. Not now, and not ever. Her skin color has nothing to do with it. She's a whining, critical, ungrateful, out of touch, condescending Ivy League opportunist with a big "race" chip on her shoulder.

If she wants the job, then she has to answer to the American people... the same American people that you have to answer to. ALL of the people, up to and including the GOP. It doesn't matter one damned whit whether you like it, or not.

I agree that your children should be out of bounds.

They should be out of bounds for your wife, as well. You might want to advise her to shy away from using them as political props. It doesn't sit well.

From Rush Limbaugh on this subject:

"BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

424 WildBill  Mon, May 19, 2008 11:30:16pm

To me the interesting thing on Obama's statement is how he 1. took over for his wife - no interviewer my wife's not answering your question I'm the man I'll answer for her. And two made it quite clear "He's the family protector and provider. His poor wife is just a hapless women who can't possibly stand up to criticism." all the while implying my wife is just like Bill Clinton's - it's beautiful theater - and the liberal elite swallow it up.

BTW, read on a Hillary blog one of the female's at a University discovering that universities are male dominated even though in some cases women make up almost 50% of the graduates - apparently those liberal professors find a way to exclude them. The Hillary Split and GOP meltdown could get interesting.
